Regular Checkups and Preventive Care
Everyone one needs dental care…from tooth repair or replacement, smile improvements, to the ever important cleanings and examination at preventive maintenance appointments. Our clinical staff of experienced and highly trained hygienists and clinical assistants combine their clinical skills and professional standards to create a comfortable setting for a smile you’ll always feel good about.
Research has shown that a healthy smile contributes to your overall health. Since bacteria can trigger inflammation in the body, it has been closely linked to serious medical problems such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke and more. Because we care about our patients’ total health, we have designed preventive maintenance appointments to include:
• Thorough cleaning and flossing
• Full mouth dental and periodontal exam
• Oral cancer screening
• Periodic x-rays (when indicated) to detect decay, bone-loss or tumors
• Topical application of fluoride or other preventive medications
• Consultations and recommendations
Meet our dentist, Dr. Richards, whose work is always done with precision and you are never over-treated or under-treated. His continued commitment to lifelong learning ensures that you will be exposed to the highest standard of care and training. Some of our general dentistry services include:
Tooth Colored Fillings
When you need a small filling but don’t want ugly silver in your teeth, direct resin or white fillings are the way to go. Their most obvious advantage is beauty—a well –done tooth colored filling can indistinguishable from the natural tooth. White fillings are bonded to the natural tooth structure. This means they actually integrate with the tooth, thereby sealing the gap between tooth and filling and adding strength to the tooth.
When a tooth is cracked, decayed, or damaged, a dental crown may need to be fitted onto the tooth. A crown is a long lasting covering that fits over the original tooth. Porcelain crowns have the most realistic appearance and can whiten, reshape, and realign existing teeth, adding to a healthy and vibrant smile.
Root Canal (Endodontic) Therapy
It is a treatment modality that will save diseased or injured teeth. The alternative to endodontics is tooth extraction. Typically, a severely decayed tooth or a tooth with a large filling will begin to ache. The pain might be intermittent at first and over time progress to a constant dull throbbing pain or a severe ache that might be felt on all the teeth on the affected side. Sometimes there is no pain and an abscess might be discovered on a routine x-ray.
The pulp is the soft tissue that is located inside the tooth structure. It contains nerves, arteries, veins, and lymph tissue. It is contained in the canals located in thin tube-like spaces in the roots and in the pulp chamber located within the crown of the tooth.
Dental veneers (sometimes referred to as porcelain veneers or porcelain laminates) are thin, custom made shells of tooth-colored material designed to cover the front surface of teeth. These shells are bonded to the front of teeth changing their color, size, shape or length and resulting in a greatly improved appearance. Veneers do not make a tooth stronger and more resistant to fracture. Patients who have experienced wear problems with their teeth are NOT candidates for veneers
Often referred to as partial dentures, a removable bridge is a tooth replacement appliance that replaces one or more missing teeth. It is held on by “clipping” on to some of your existing natural teeth or crowns. There are two types of partial bridges:
1. A Conventional Partial Bridge is a tooth replacement appliance that stays in place by ‘hooking “ or “clipping” on to some natural teeth or crowns. These are typically identified by a small metal clasp around one or more teeth.
2. A Precision Partial Bridge is a tooth replacement appliance that stays in place by attaching to one or more permanent crowns, generally showing no metal when you smile and attaching to the crowns using different precision devices that are very long lasting
A Fixed bridge is a device used to fill the space where a tooth has fallen out or been removed. A typical bridge consists of a pontic 9 a filler tooth that is attached to two surrounding crowns (abutments). Once complete, this bridge is bonded or cemented into the mouth. Without the use of a bridge, spaces in the mouth from missing teeth can cause multiple teeth to shift, lead to an improper bite and /or jaw problems and may spur gum problems.
We absolutely love providing cosmetic dentistry for our patients and changing people’s lives! We have seen quite a few patients over the years become more self-confident, more radiant and more willing to show off their smile in social situations having fixed chipped teeth or having spaced closed with veneers. Also, bleaching (teeth whitening) has given many patients the opportunity to have a whiter, brighter smile.
Restoration of Dental Implants
Dr. Richards excels in the restoration of all types of dental implants. Dental implants are utilized to replace one or more teeth. They are held in the jaw bone and have the same dependable foundation as that of natural teeth. The placement of dental implants is usually done by an oral surgeon or gum specialist and after appropriate healing, Dr. Richards proceeds with the final restoration. The meticulously made teeth restore biting strength, chewing comfort and confidence when speaking or laughing. Detailed planning and communication between the specialist and Dr. Richards before implant placement are critical in ensuring the best possible outcome of such procedures. Dr. Richards uses advanced technology with 3D images of a patients jaw to ensure optimum function and esthetics of the final restoration.

When teeth, muscles, and jaw joints are aligned properly the dentition can function harmoniously. However, improperly aligned upper and lower teeth, or “malocclusion”, can contribute to facial pain, headaches, sore jaw joints, worn or fractured teeth, and night-time clenching and grinding.
At your examination appointment, Dr. Richards complete a thorough TMJ exam to determine if any of these issues are present in your head and neck areas. Treatment of these problems can restore proper bite function, smile appeal, and jaw joint health.
Occasionally, patients have a bite that is broken down after years of wear and tear on the surface of the teeth. We have special training that enables us to rebuild these teeth to create a comfortable, functional and aesthetic outcome.
